About Us
Balai Budaya Minomartani is an association of community members in Minomartani village, Ngaglik Sleman subdistrict, Yogyakarta special region. Our community is made up residential artists, various arts groups and collectives, and residents in general of Minomartani village. Together, our activities accentuate and preserve our community’s cultural values.
Ledjar Soebroto, commonly referred to as Mbah Ledjar by name, is an elder at Minomartani cultural center. He had designed and created a new wayang kancil puppet whose appearance is natural and life-like. With his persistence and work over the many years at our cultural center, he has succeeded in reviving the story of kancil, making it a story that all members of the community are familiar with today.
It is recorded that Mbah Ledjar had taught his knowledge about wayang kancil to many people, from adults to as young as toddlers. Today, his students have become kancil puppet masters of their own, and now are involved in different sectors and various professions such as teachers and lecturers. At Minomartani cultural center we have kept a box of wayang kancil, handmade by Mbah.
